Qingfeng and Mingyue, two Taoist boys, presented two ginseng fruits to Tang Seng on the orders of their master, the immortal Zhenyuan. Because the fruit resembled a baby, Tang Seng dared not eat it. Bajie encouraged Wukong to steal the ginseng fruit from the garden, and the brothers shared it. The two Taoist boys found that the immortal fruit was missing and scolded Tang Seng and his disciples. Wukong, in anger, knocked down the ginseng fruit tree. That night, the four left in a hurry but were caught back by the immortal Zhenyuan who had returned from the Miluo Palace with a spell. Wukong promised to find an immortal prescription to cure the fruit tree.
